Eudora stubbornly refused to stay behind, despite Jacosta's earnest words. Yes, she knew she had a life growing in her. Yes, she knew that there were others who were equally capable. But she wasn't showing yet, and she was hankering for something, anything to do. Besides, this was the Amazon way, which Jacosta didn't understand since she was from a village outside of Amazon lands. Eudora would do her part, even if it cost her life. She was going on the mission.
Not that it was anything atypical from what the Amazons had been doing of late. The current strategy was to avoid out and out confrontation with Aulix's well armored troops. In fact, the Amazons were very careful to avoid any straight out battles, lest they had to deal with that lightening monster from Zeus. So it was the small skirmishes they kept to, ambushing the mysoginist's people whenever they made their ways into the dark corners of the woods. Besides, the forest provided some cover. Out in the field was dangerous, and the Amazons weren't ready to let Aulix know of their other allies.
Besides, the latest concern had to do with the skirmishes that were taking place well on the other side of the Amazon lands. Aulix's influence was increasing, though the man seemed to be staying in one place. Amazons, who had been residing with their husbands outside the lands had been making their way back, children in tow and sometimes husbands. If they were lucky.
Vicious rumors had been spreading like wildfire and seeds of blame were being sown. It seemed the amazons were taking blame for everything from spoiled milk, to the least problem with the weather. Women and their
families were being harassed just for looking like they might be related to Amazons. It was not a good time to be an 'zon on the outside.
Rumor and ill will. Strife was definitely at work, which meant Ares, the amazons' supposed founding father, had sided against them. Eudora was going on the next expedition. She was determined. Besides, nothing would happen, the warrior reasured her lover, Xena was going with them.
Jacosta knew she should feel heartened by that news, but she was still troubled. She just didn't know why.
