Remember, this is all meant in fun!

The council pretty much agreed that waiting was the ideal thing to do, considering the necessities of war. There was a wondrous feel of relief from all concerned. Especially Ephiny.

Besides, only a dunce could miss the fact that the consorts were most definitely an active and loving part of the queen's life. At least one of them made themselves available to the queen each..day..and night. Sometimes all. And despite the questionable nature of the situation, the notion that their queen was nubile and able enough to take on three at a time was an inspiration for the Amazons. It lent good humor to an otherwise dreary situation.

Not that the Amazons were doing badly, considering.

The edges of the nation were frazzled, beset by outpostings of Aulix's Spartan/Mercenary collective, but the heart of the nation was fiercely protected and none of the borderland temples had been lost. Rather, they had been shored up, with Amazons, female priests and volunteers arriving from outlying villages and taking watchful posts therein.

Miracles were happening.

In the second month of the Amazon War, two miracles happened. First, Gabrielle recieved an announcement and invitation to her sister's wedding to be held in the coming spring. That was, according to their mother, a blessed event. Second, massive passageways deep in the earth's depth opened up, connecting *all* of the temples of the Amazon lands together. It was the first sign of new things occuring and had been startling. Ordinary marble floors cracked, rumbled noisily as they folded in on themselves and disappeared. Amazons were caused to stumble about drunkenly as the land shifted beneath them. But not for long. The shifts took less than a candlemark, from early morning's light.

Amazons who were at the cavern of the spring would later tell of how the earth giant seemed to come alive around them. They would speak with wonder about the crumbling shudders that forced them away. They would wonder about the strange sight of a man made of mud seeming to walk by them, ignoring the way they called to him and warned. Yet, he had been undisturbed at all by the turbulence and noise around them and when he entered the cavernous hole it sealed up behind him and the world buckled even worse around them.

But not one life was lost. No Amazon perished or was wounded. The potters, however, suffered the loss of their work. By the time it was all through, the spring's font was opened and the well of Eudora's village filled with the nourishing wealth of clean water and Amazon country was dotted with new hills. Newson had finally arrived.

And he brought friends.
