It was a quiet trip back. Iovene, despite her normally talkative nature, didn't feel much like conversing. Jacosta was still too new to the idea that the Amazons might Want her to be with them, let alone that she'd gained an instant family. Eudora, was contemplating her own role in the situation. Xena was just her normal silent self. Arete, was still contemplating the sprite.
All of them tread lightly, even Jacosta, who'd learned to walk on the mother carefully. She held upon her back, a pack filled with the small details and observations of her creation. Xena had said that Gabrielle would be interested. Certainly the warrior had been. She was interested in this notion of lived in temples and even more interested in how strategically placed some of these were.
Jacosta had been firm, "These are holy places. I know it."
Iovene had confirmed with a kiss, "You're a priestess, of course you know it." That had caused a bit of fluster on the lanky woman's part. She'd been about to deny it, but the curly haired dowser kissed her again. "Don't argue, you are. You wouldn't have found these places if it were not so."
"But. . but. .I don't. ." Jocasta felt a well of insecurity. "I'm not initiated. I have no rituals."
"Listen and the Goddess will give you the rituals, love." Eudora spoke reasonably, "I'm sure there was a time when no rituals existed at all. They must have been discovered somehow." She gave Jacosta a reassuring squeeze. She was in a remarkably calm state of mind, given the circumstances, but then, again, she wasn't alone and there was the vow between them. "For myself, I am going to have to do some more research and confer with the queen and her counselors. There is a legal matter to take care of. Soon, I think."
Nothing revealed Xena's lack of sleep, save maybe a bite to her temperament. "How soon?"
"The sooner the better I think. Amazons should be united before war."
"You dreamed it too?" Jacosta had asked, astonished. She picked up her cheese and took a bite.
Eudora smiled and shook her head. Her fingers curled over the slice of bread, holding. "No love," she shook her head, "you talk in your sleep." She nodded at Iovene, "Our Voice," They all knew of whom she spoke, "said it a vision, so we didn't wake you."
"War." Xena had spat, disgusted, fearful and unfortunately believing. The witness of the air sprite had been real enough and she'd dealt with prophets before. None were so accurate as Jacosta however.
"Xena." Arete's voice was soft. It was a comfort. Green eyes stared into blue, until there was calmness again, "We do have some Gods on our side, yes?"
The warrior had looked thoughtful, but all three women at the other end of the table had said, "Yes."
"That," said Xena, her eyes finally showing her weariness, "is what I'm afraid of."
So now, they walked in the early morning air. The birds chirped. The leaves rustled. Arete, whose eyes were now open, found herself occasionally spotting wind creatures. Some were fair large and not tiny at all. She imagined what a storm's face would look like and wondered, if the storm's wind was one entity or a multitude. She didn't know, couldn't say. She didn't know, if the entities were the fullness of the elements, or just. .expressions. She shivered a premonition. She imagined they would find out soon enough.
