The lanky woman heard her name being called by a silken voice that she thought she'd never hear again. She felt so warm, like she was wrapped up in a blanket. She knew it couldn't be true, yet her arms wouldn't move, so maybe it was? There was a part of her that didn't want to wake up. There was a smell of lilacs and roses and leather. Were lilacs even in season? Leather? It was much too hard to think right now.

"You know this person?" Valona asked Eudora incredulously. Her brown gaze narrowed and she fingered the ornate hilt of the knife at her side. Eudora knelt besides Xena and the woman who'd just fainted. The red head's hand was on the long woman's shoulder. She ignored the question and spoke Jacosta's name again, trying to summon her back by will power alone. She looked up into piercing sympathetic blue eyes.

There were eating utensils on the floor and the chieftess stepped over them. Valona bent over, looking at Jacosta's long face. "Not much to look at is she?" she said dismissively. Not someone to worry about. Though why she was worrying, feeling these jealous emotions creeping up now, she didn't know.

"Shut up," Arete pulled the chieftess away from the prone form. "If you're not going to help, just stand away." The blonde consort stepped between Eudora and Valona. Her expression was challenging. Her green eyes flashed the warning. The chieftess started to move forward, then caught Xena's narrowed evil glance and stopped.

The Amazon warrior lifted her hands and shook her head. "Fine. Fine." she said, but Valona seethed inside. 'How dare she? How dare that bitch stand between . . .' There was a look between Eudora and the blonde. That look. It was shy and too familiar. What!! Wasn't the Queen enough?! There was a part of Valona's heart that darkened at that moment. Her sense of place became extremely intense. She was aware of each curling strand of blonde hair on the consort's head, each flickering movement of Eudora's eyelids, her own physical presence right down to the way her toes felt within her boots and the scent of ashes.

Xena noticed the change in Valona's body language. The hostility was intense, though she appeared to only be obedient. There was nothing to do about it now, but she recognized trouble when she saw it. Xena, however, was already positioning herself to lift Jacosta up. She nodded at Eudora to move and watched as the fair skinned woman gracefully uncrouched from the floor.

"She'll be alright. Just fainted." The warrior reassured those who cared to know. . .and herself. She noted the flicker of eyelids, the strong pulsing in Jacosta's neck, and the almost familiar feel of the woman n her arms. 'Another one?!' She asked herself as strong thigh muscles flexed and knees unbent. Jacosta was lighter than she looked and more important. She'd have to talk to Gabrielle about this, for sure.

Jacosta felt the sensation of being embraced by strong arms and lifted. Then they were moving. She heard. . .Iovene. . . and all those thoughts started cascading again, overloading her senses "There's a bed over here." They. . . were here. She forgot to think.

The sprite waited patiently. . .well, as patiently as she could, considering that she was a creature that was constantly on the move, usually. She occupied a corner, high high up where she could see everything there was to see.

Especially her next target. The woman with the curly brown hair and the dark pretty skin. She would hear. She would hear very well. The sprite waited for her moment, dancing upon the soft currents of the house.

Eudora held Jacosta's hand within her own. She sat on the mattress besides the prone figure, trying not to think. . .too much. She'd committed to watching for the woman's wakefulness. She shivered in remembrance of the difference between the spark of Iovene's kind touch and her dark lover's grasp. She could see how frustrated Valona was becoming, and couldn't think of a way to resolve the problem. Not when she knew. . .

Jacosta stirred, moving the covers about. She sighed. Gaia's unknowing priestess opened her eyes and stared into a gaze of sky.

"You." (Was it her, or did she seem to be saying that a lot lately.)

Eudora nodded without smiling, "Yes." Her grip tightened, but wasn't painful. She felt the connection deepen. This was the right thing to do. She'd have to deal with the consequences later.

Jacosta tried to sit up. She felt awkward. The pillow rubbed and flattened against the headboard and she nearly banged her head. Eudora's hands settled upon the woman's shoulders.

"Relax. There's no place to go." Jacosta shivered at the touch and settled back.

"I'm okay," she avowed, but she didn't try to get up. She blinked and felt a sudden aching and need that started in her heart and had been weighing on her mind, "I. .I. ." she began, "I'm sorry for . . ."

A finger pressed softly against her lips, "It wasn't your fault. I didn't blame you." Eudora's gaze was soft. Her hand slid to touch the softness of Jacosta's face. This one was one of hers.

"You didn't?" There was hope. Oh gods. .there. . .was. Jacosta's eyes were wide and glimmered.

"No." Eudora's voice was firm. "I didn't."

They gazed at each other and Jacosta finally let loose of the breath she'd been holding since that night. She sat up again, this time without struggle. Eudora moved to make room.

Jacosta dared and laid a hand on Eudora's knee. Her expression was beyond sincere, "I missed you." The words crossed the boundaries that separated them, the times and the places. They settled somewhere in the heart.

"And I you." There was a filling up of those empty spaces with that acknowledgement. Eudora wouldn't have gone back on those words if she could.

Their mouths met in sweet communion and the fates rejoiced.
